WORLD COPD DAY

On November 15th, The Respiratory Research Center Participated in “World COPD Day” Big Baton Pass, along with a dozen other pulmonary organizations around the world. We hosted a live watch party in our conference room and enjoyed almost 2 hours of content. From interviews with Dr. Casaburi and Mary Burns, rehab with Jackie Tosolini and our own mini baton pass showcasing the doctors and researchers around the world that have come through our building!

RRC MEMBER OF THE MONTH

Dr. Michele Girardi, a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Lundquist Institute, is dedicated to investigating the mechanisms underlying exercise intolerance. Michele is supported by the Johnny Carson Foundation for his research on exercise limitations in COPD patients. He is one of our newer hires, having just starting in January of this year after moving from Rome, Italy. Outside the lab, Michele’s passion for physiology and its rich history competes only with his love for running and eating good food. As a proud Roman, he ensures a weekly fix of pasta carbonara. Rumor has it that he boasts a legendary ability to devour an entire box of pasta solo!

CTSI OPEN HOUSE

We are excited to join the CTSI Open House on December 7th 2023, where we will showcase all the Research Support Services available at the CTSI (Clinical and Translational Science Institute) at The Lundquist Institute/Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. Attendees will get the chance to meet the CTSI staff, some of our Clinical and Translational Cores at The Lundquist Institute/Harbor-UCLA, as well as our community partners who facilitate community partnered research.
