Jeff Moore Presents Data at 2024 ATS
PhD student Jeff Moore was among 14 members of the Respiratory Research Center to present their work at the 2024 American Thoracic Society Annual Conference in San Diego. Jeff presented his research in 558 ever-smokers, which showed that coronary artery calcification progresses more rapidly in individuals with airway inflammation than in those without. He found that this effect was independent of age, sex, BMI, smoking history and cholesterol levels. His research used analysis of the COPDGene study and is the first to assess how coronary plaque progresses in COPD patients, which remains a major cause of morbidity and mortality in this population. A huge congratulations to all those who presented at this major International Conference!
Torrance 5K Armed Forces
On May 18th, our team rallied together for the Torrance 5KArmed Forces race where we not only showcased our commitment to health and wellness but also bonded as a community. The Lundquist Institute sponsored a booth for the Respiratory Research Center, Cardiology and Harbor-UCLA Emergency Medicine. We engaged dozens of attendees, and shared insights about our center and ongoing research studies. It was heartening to witness many members of our team turning out in full force, embodying our dedication to making a positive impact. Thank you to everyone who joined us in promoting a healthier future!
